There are so many different options when it comes to domain registrars, resellers and providers. It’s hard enough to make a choice and it may seem that using web hosting to store everything in one place is correct. However, domain registration on a hosting may not always be such a good idea.
To host the site on the hosting you need two components: hosting and domain. Hosting is the place where your site is stored – you pay the hoster for renting its equipment. Domain is the name of your site. You register a domain with any registrar or provider and pay for that domain every year. If you don’t renew a domain (don’t pay for it), then the domain goes on sale and another person can register it.
What could be the reasons for hosting and domain hosting in different places?
Easy to change provider. If you ever decide to change the provider, then most likely you will also want to transfer the domain. Domain transfers can be very annoying and long. When registering a domain in another place, this problem disappears.
You have a large number of domain names, and you want to store them all in one place, to simplify their management, or to receive a wholesale discount.
Additional security. When hacking can be lost not only the site, but the domain name.
